Is it true that investment bankers from Goldman Sachs make over $20 million dollars in bonuses alone? How?

October 21st, 2011
Daniel Hopkins asked:

Do you think it is fair that investment bankers who work for Goldman Sachs are making millions of dollars this year in bonuses alone? (Some workers will make $20 million dollars alone this year)

Now that you know how much money investment bankers from Goldman Sachs will make this year, why do people think that the way to financial success is by becoming a doctor only?

Why do hard working surgeons make only $300,000 a year but investment bankers from Goldman Sachs make ten times that much in bonuses? (Yes, I sound pretty desperate but I need to know this too)

Do you know anyone who is an investment banker from Goldman Sachs or in any other company that makes $20 million+ in bonus money this year alone?

Can you tell me what college level courses I need to take to become an investment banker and maybe go work at Goldman Sachs?

How many years does it take to become an investment banker?

Again, please list all courses.

Final question: How do you get hired to work at Goldman Sachs?

What do you think of the opinion you should never listen to investment experts; they are likely to be biased ?

October 9th, 2011
Lorne asked:

Investment advice on various stocks by ‘experts’ seems to be an attempt to manipulate the stock price on things they hold – therefore we should be very wary of their advice.

Their advise should be based on first principles analysis of business performance and placing this in context of the market the business operates in combined with technical factors that might affect the share price or the small investor eg Currency movements and losses from currency conversion and transaction charges.

What should we take into account when considering their advice?

How do you calculate return on investment?

September 28th, 2011
rcr018 asked:

I’m working a homework problem and need to calculate the return on investment. The return on investment is over a period of 5 years. The profits for each year is 21,292.74; 30,808.47; 40,143.30; 56,976.15; 63,319.40. The average yearly profit is 42,508.01. The initial investment is 125,000.

Also, I don’t need the rate of return, but how do you calculate this if you know how? Thanks in advance.

What happens to your investment when a stock gets delisted from NASDAQ?

September 15th, 2011
magicjosh5 asked:

So what happens when you buy a stock and it gets delisted from NASDAQ like Spansion? I didn’t buy it. Do you just lose your investment? When it gets delisted it is an OTC stock right? Also lets say you bought it when it ‘s an OTC and they go back up to were they were. Can they get put back into NASDAQ? What happens to your investment if that happens?
Sorry SpanKy, but that’s not what delisting means…
