Thousands of people across China have been conned out of their life savings in a massive investment scam involving ant farms.

A chairman of one company in Liaoning province has been sentenced to death for duping investors out of millions of dollars.

Tony Cheng met one hopeful investor in Shenyang who fell victim to the con.

We do have such proverbs, but sometimes the influences of the mess opinions and the lure is so great that it can drive people to insane decisions.. Such people need to be protected..

Tony mentioned in his VOs that the police tried to stop them filming with threats of arrest…but it could have been more dramatic and complete if you put subs translating the exact words of the police..There was a part in the report wherein you rolled the camera with the UPSOT of the police. In that moment, the VOs is not enough to tell the exact emotions in the story. ;-)

I like the opening VOs, very symbolic…not an ordinary news report. But I think the report is not complete. I know that it’s part of a pyramid scam but you cannot just say SOMETHING WEnT TERRIBLY WRONG WITH THE ANT POWER COMPANY..to state the problem…you could have dig deeper into what really happened to the scam. Its not enough to say that its FRAUD.. that’s too generic TONY.. Its not for the audience to assume what really transpired..

wonderful al jazeera. out of all interesting international news, u have to do a story on a failed small pyramid scheme. comparing to middle eastern business paradise, it is so appalling. Not

Insect farming is quite popular and not market yet very effectivly globally as a form of nutrition to go perhaps with Black rice and diced bamboo. So yes this Ant farm isn’t eaxctly offering insect choices to Protine diets of people so that they can eat less transfats in their over all diet but hey who knows.

What struck me most about this news clip was not so much the report about the ant farm scam, but that the Chinese police swooped down on and manhandled the reporter and the cameraman who were merely trying to film an abandoned building. In those few seconds of footage, one gets a chilling glimpse of the true nature of the Chinese government: repressive and brutal.

Damn good reporting, but it would be interesting to know whether the reporting crew were met by the police while filming or chengguan, a term that I think ought to enter the lexicon.
